Shifting the Paradigm for Adolescent Female Runners, One FB Post At A Time

**Below is my “rebuttal” to the above NYT article.
Women’s voices are rising: women coaches who have devoted their lives to trying to end this vicious cycle, women runners who have endured more challenge than necessary, in their attempt to simply feel satisfied with their efforts, doing what they love – and want to help remove the boulders in the path for the next generation. Their collective wisdom is a rising tide which will carry the Katelyn Tuohy’s and the thousands of girls training to make their varsity XC teams, to joy, satisfaction and competence. It’s only the beginning, but it’s a good start.
GIRLS: stay AWAKE, HONOR your body, seek to educate yourselves for the sake of your Dreams.
“Thousands of girls who love to run, are wondering what to do about this “cruel twist” (not my words). The next article will include SOLUTIONS! For starters, look at: http://stridingforbalance.strikingly.com created by Miranda DiBiasio, who will be a guest presenter at my annual camp for MS/HS girls. It’s time for the collective consciousness of the running community to re-imagine the fates of HS girls: stop projecting the idea that failure is imminent and that the journey is full of disappointment and misery. I’m living proof that it’s not and am passionate about getting the message to girls early enough for them to create their own reality, with health, happiness and longevity. With the help of Elizabeth Carey professional writing instructor, we also help girls at our camp begin to literally write their own script for the beautiful, abundant lives which await them. Change begins with changing our thoughts and beliefs; let’s begin seeing girls as the powerful, intuitive, wise, strong and capable people they are.Teach them to believe in themselves, starting with empowering them to TRUST their instincts
and honor their bodies through the rigors of training to be successful runners.” #girlsrunning #Runtribe #believe #running #usatfyouth#fitnessgoals
