Melody Fairchild
The seeds for BMWs started right here in Boulder when director Melody Fairchild was a youth runner herself. She grew up running in the mountains west of town. At Boulder High, she competed in cross country and track, winning multiple state titles. In 1990, Melody became the fastest high school girl in the U.S. when she won a national cross country championship, setting a course record that still stands. On the track, Melody was the first American girl to break 10 minutes in the two-mile.
After high school, Melody faced challenges common to young female athletes. With resilience, she overcame them. She went on to earn many world-class level achievements, including a bronze medal at the World Cross Country Championships.
Now, Melody is a top master’s runner and inspiring coach. Her running experience speaks for itself. Yet the great care and open heart she brings to BMWs is why her young athletes are reaching milestones. Melody knows the proper balance needed for positive youth running. Her fellow coaches follow suit. The BMW team lights a spark in its athletes, which burns bright into high school and beyond.
