Coaches

Kevin Cooper
11-12 + 13-14 Boys

Coach Kevin has been with BMWS since it's inception in 2013. He is a beloved coach, great leader and knows just the right thing to say to motivate, re-direct or console our Warriors. Coach K has many great one-liners, but one of our favs is: "with great ability, comes great responsibility." He believes in the ability of every Warrior who crosses his path, so expect to be treated as one who will become a leader someday. If you don't know it now, you will know how valuable you are to this team, after Coach K has had a chance to mentor you.

Coach Ryan is always sniffing out the spark in our Warriors, and making sure they turn it into a flame through their effort in practices and races. Always there to inspire our Warriors to make the most of what they've got, coach Ryan doesn't rest until you've let that inner beast roar. Make sure you listen to him: he can out last just about anyone on our team. He specializes in ultra distance races, competing in 100 milers just for fun.

Running has always been a part of my life. It’s been a way for me to channel my energy, stress, athleticism and competitive nature. My mom always ensured I was a multi-sport athlete; growing through running has always been the perfect cross training for every other sport I’ve excelled at. It has taught me how to take care of my body through injury prevention strategies and eating right. Eventually running led me to new passions encompassing nature and the beauty of Colorado. I began to excel as a freestyle skier in my mid high school years and everything I learned from running was carried into the sport, contributing to my success. As a coach I strive to instill a fun environment and bring smiles to as many kids as I can, every practice. I hope the kids obtain the same life skills that I learned as I grew up with BMW.

Sophie Linn
11-12 + 13-14 Girls

Born in Australia, I grew up a swimmer who ran on the side. After competing in the 2012 Olympic Trials for Swimming and Track, I came to the US to run track and cross country at the University of Michigan where I did my undergraduate and graduate degrees in sport business and human computer interaction.

After I graduated from Michigan, I switched to Triathlon, and am currently racing on the Australian National Team.

After coaching school cross country briefly in high school, I knew it was something I wanted to return to. Running has brought me all over the world, and given me friends, opportunities and a lifelong way of staying healthy and fit. By coaching I hope I can give back to the sport that has given me so much, and impart some wisdom on the upcoming runners at Boulder Mountain Warriors. They are so tough and it’s an honor to get to run with them!

I am so excited to be helping with Boulder Mountain Warriors. I started running in middle school to get in shape for basketball, but soon found my passion was in cross country and track. In Florida, I was a multiple time state champion and record holder and went on to qualify for Footlocker Nationals with my twin sister during our junior and senior years.

I then competed at Princeton University and at the University of New Mexico as a graduate student, moving up in distances on the track and becoming increasingly appreciative of cross country's focus on the team.

Running is still a big part of my life. Nowadays, I love meeting friends in Boulder for sunrise track sessions, exploring new trails, running on the dirt roads north of town, and competing in road races throughout the country. Most of all, I’ve been grateful to find such a supportive community in the Boulder running scene and hope to help BMWs find the same!

Molly Grabil

11-12 + 13-14 Girls

Coach Molly is a beloved mentor to our girls. She is a University of Oregon Duck and currently one of the top American 10K track and marathon runners in the nation, while working a full time job. She often says that coaching BMWS is the highlight of her week. Her love for kids and for running and the gifts it gives our bodies, minds and spirits is felt far and wide.

Rory Murtagh
9 -10 Boys

Rory grew up in Dublin Ireland, road cycling and running in the rain. He began running before he walked, and hasn’t ever really stopped. He started competing later in life and still loves to run, train and race. And to bike. He competed for Ireland at Duathlon Worlds, races distances from the mile to marathons and beyond, and is now mostly focused on ultras and age-group races. In coaching the BMWs he tries to have each warrior keep the joy of running for their whole lives; to have fun, to do their own personal best, and to support one another to bring out the best of the team.
